Winton Park 3G

Ardrossan Winton Rovers FC (CIC) a well established football club in North Ayrshire and well known throughout Scotland as a semi professional/junior football club. Founded in 1900 and based in the centre of the town. Winton Rovers are the heart beat of Ardrossan.

Playing every second Saturday at their Home Ground Winton Park, the club have a unique scenario that they are the only club in Ardrossan who have access to a Full Size 11 aside football pitch. There are simply no others within a town of just over 10,500 people.

With various clubs associated to the club travelling outwith the town as far as 11 miles away to play home games, Ardrossan Winton Rovers CIC made the decision that they would look to replace their perfectly good grass pitch to allow their immediate Ardrossan Community and Associated Clubs the opportunity to stay, play and represent within the town on their refurbished new Fifa Standard 3G Astroturf Pitch.

Various consultation events and surveys informed them that between a cost of between £50,000 and £70,000 was being spent outwith Ardrossan throughout each year by residents travelling to use training facilities and play games elsewhere. This was proving to be a huge barrier for participation for locals with the town of Ardrossan having significant areas of deprivation.

Between early 2022 and 2024 One For The Team CIC have provided ongoing support to this project involving a partnership of Ardrossan Winton Rover's CIC and Ardrossan Community Sports Hub SCIO to develop proposals and secure funding to install a new 3g football pitch, new LED floodlights and new community changing facilities at Winton Park, Ardrossan.

One For The Team developed a comprehensive business plan for the project, provided project development assistance to the project steering group and prepared a number of successful funding applications.

The project went on site to be completed during Mid - Summer 2024, following the assembly of a successful £800,000+ capital funding package from key funders such as the Scottish Football Association, North Ayrshire Council Community Investment Fund, the Scottish Football Partnership Trust, the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, the Peoples Postcode Trust and the Nuclear Decommissioning Agency Socio Economic Scheme.

In July 2024 Pitch Specialist contractors Allsports took control of the existing Winton Park site and began the removal of the grass pitch. The foundations for the new community changing facilities were also prepared and laid adjacent to the park.

By August 2024, the contractors have removed all previous grass and floodlights from the site and have started the levelling of the sub structure, putting in the drainage and running electricity provision for the 4 new floodlighting columns to be installed.

September and October 2024 saw the new shockpad, new x4 floodlighting columns and 3G artificial surface be laid at Winton Park as the project neared its practical completion.
